Admiral Ackbar Closer to Ole Miss Mascot Status

Admiral Ackbar -- the Supreme Commander of the Rebel Alliance fleet -- is one step closer to becoming the new on-field mascot for the University of Mississippi. Ole Miss is in the middle of a movement to replace their old mascot -- Colonel Reb -- after the school decided they wanted to update their image. Eli Manning won't take broke hospital's money

St. Vincent's hospital in New York has a little bit of a debt problem -- about $700 million worth, according to the New York Post. They also owed New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning(notes) over $500,000 for marketing work he's done for them, but Eli, aware of their debt problems, told them no thanks. He wants them to keep their money. He'll continue doing fund-raising work for the hospital for free, too. Obviously, it's the right thing for Eli to do. What kind of person -- especially one with Eli's money -- would demand that a bankrupt hospital keep paying...

(U) Michigan (Football) was out of compliance

The NCAA has found that Michigan was out of compliance with practice time rules under coach Rich Rodriguez, who admitted making "mistakes" in another blow to his rocky start at college football's winningest program. Incoming athletic director David Brandon disclosed the NCAA conclusions Tuesday, but said there were "no surprises" in the report. He expressed full support for his coach, who is 8-16 in two disappointing seasons.

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- A walk-on football player for the University of Mississippi collapsed and died Friday morning during a conditioning workout. 20 year old Bennie F. Abram who transferred to Ole Miss from Itawamba Community College died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford.

University of Florida football player Gary Brown suspended after arrest

Florida redshirt freshman defensive tackle Gary Brown has been suspended from all team activities following his Sunday arrest for allegedly striking two women at an off-campus party. According to Alachua County Jail records, Brown has been charged with two counts of misdemeanor battery. He was released on his own recognizance on Monday morning. The 19-year-old Brown is accused of striking a woman in the face with an open hand as she tried to get people to leave a party at a Gainesville apartment complex. When another woman tried to intervene, Brown allegedly slapped her arm away and caused several scratches....
